Stretch and Sketch - Art in the Garden

Treat Yourself A relaxing midweek mini retreat at Dowthorpe Hall. Spend the day gently stretching sketching and painting and enjoying good food and company in the Hall’s beautiful gardens.

We will begin the day with a gentle beginner-friendly Pilates class to wake up the body and ease you into retreat mode. After a short break, you’ll have two full hours of art in the garden, using the grounds and views around Dowthorpe Hall as your inspiration. We will then share a leisurely lunch in the marquee with time to chat and soak up the surroundings.

Who is it for

• Complete beginners and more experienced artists – everyone is welcome!
• Pebooks who’d like a calm creative day for themselves
• No previous Pilates or art experience required

What’s included

• Welcome tea/coffee on arrival
• A gentle 60 minute Pilates session
• A two hour art in the garden session (Drawing or painting in the grounds)
• A relaxed lunch in the garden
• Use of chairs, drawing boards and paper.

Timetable (approximate)

• 10:00-10:15 - arrivals, tea/coffee, Welcome chat
• 10:15-11:15 - Gentle, beginner friendly Pilates class
• 11:15-11:30 - Short break
• 11:30 - 13:30 - Art in the Garden (two hours around the Hall and Gardens)
• 13:30 - 14:30 - Lunch in the marquee
• 14:30 - 15:30 - unhurried time to keep sketching, wonder the garden or chat before heading home

What to bring

• your preferred art materials (sketchbook, paper, canvas, pencils, pens, paints etc. If you’d like some advice on what materials to bring, please get in touch)
• A yoga/Pilates mat and a light blanket or extra layer for if it gets chilly
• The light waterproof or sun hat, depending on the forecast.
